The rule
Last exact aspect, then the ingress
The Moon is void of course from its last exact Ptolemaic aspect — a conjunction, sextile, square, trine or opposition — to the Sun, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune or Pluto while it is in its current sign, until the moment it enters the next sign. That is the whole rule this page uses. Nothing else counts: no Chiron, no lunar nodes, no asteroids, no chart angles, no parallels and no minor aspects. Both instants are found by bisection on the engine's positions, to the second, and the window between them is what the bars above shade.
Because the Moon crosses a sign roughly every two and a half days, a void window opens about that often. Most last a few hours; a few last most of a day, when the Moon's final aspect in a sign falls early.
Why tables differ
Different rules give different times
Two void-of-course tables rarely agree to the minute, and it is almost never an arithmetic error. Some count aspects to Chiron, the nodes or the chart angles, which ends a void later. Some include minor aspects such as the semi-sextile or quincunx, which does the same. Some use a sidereal zodiac, which moves every ingress by about a day. Some print times in one fixed zone and leave the conversion to you; a few round to the hour. This page names its rule above and shows every time in the zone you choose, so a disagreement with another table can be traced to a rule, not a mystery.

What people traditionally avoid, and what we claim
In the horary tradition a void Moon meant "nothing comes of the matter": the question, it was said, does not develop. From that came a custom of waiting for the Moon to enter its next sign before launching what should grow — signing, opening, proposing, setting out — and of using the void hours instead for routine, rest, tidying and finishing. Many people find that rhythm useful in itself, as a way of pacing a week.
What this page claims is narrower: the times. Whether a void Moon changes anything about an agreement or a journey is not something astronomy can test, and we do not say that it does.
