That instant is the same everywhere in the world; the place you cast at only sets the houses and angles, and the local clock reading shown above.

What is a solar return chart?

A solar return chart is cast for the exact moment the transiting Sun returns to its natal longitude — a recurring anniversary that lands near your birthday but not exactly on it. It is read as a chart for the year ahead, cast fresh from that one instant rather than from your birth chart itself.

Why does the exact time of day matter for a solar return?

The Sun's return happens at one specific minute, and the resulting chart's houses and angles depend on that minute and the place it is cast at, the same way a birth chart's own Ascendant depends on an exact birth time. A birth time only a few minutes off can move the return chart's Ascendant into a neighbouring sign.

What changes if I cast my solar return in a different city?

The exact return instant is the same everywhere in the world — it depends only on the Sun's position relative to your natal chart, not on where you are standing when it happens. Casting the return in a different city changes only its houses and angles, the local horizon the Ascendant and house cusps are measured against; the Sun, Moon and planet positions and signs stay the same.

What is a lunar return, and how is it different from a solar return?

A lunar return applies the same idea to the Moon: the instant the transiting Moon returns to its natal longitude, which happens roughly every twenty-seven days rather than once a year. It reads as a shorter, monthly cycle layered over the yearly one a solar return describes.

How exact is the return instant this calculator finds?

Each return instant comes from root-finding on Astronomy Engine, the same open-source ephemeris and search method every timed event on this site uses, narrowed until the transiting body's longitude matches your natal position to well under a minute of arc. Nothing here is read off a printed table.

Is my birth information sent anywhere?

No. Both your birth details and the return year, date or city you choose are calculated entirely in your browser, using the same local astronomy library and offline city list as every other calculator on this site. None of it is uploaded, stored on a server, or placed in the page URL.
