Every transit is found by root-finding on the same documented engine and orb set every other chart on this site uses, to the minute — not a lookup table. Houses for the transiting planets come from your natal chart's own first cusp, which is why the transit place is optional.

Frequently asked questions

What is a transit chart?

A transit chart shows where the planets stand right now — or on any date you pick — against the fixed positions in your birth chart. Every contact between a moving planet and one of your natal placements is a transit, read the same way as any other aspect in this site's engine: two bodies, an angle between them, and an orb.

What is the difference between an applying and a separating transit?

An applying transit is still moving toward its exact angle, tightening day by day; a separating one has already passed its exact hit and is pulling apart again. The distinction comes from the transiting planet's own motion, sampled an hour past the aspect, not an estimate from its instantaneous speed alone.

How are the exact transit dates found?

Each exact date comes from root-finding on the same astronomy engine every chart on this site uses: the calculator samples the transiting planet's position across the search window, narrows any bracket where the angle crosses exact, and repeats until the result is accurate to the minute. Nothing here is read off a printed table.

What do the retrograde windows show?

A retrograde window marks the date a planet appears, from Earth, to reverse direction, and the later date it turns back to its normal direct motion. Both turning points are found the same root-finding way as an exact aspect date, from the moment the planet's own speed crosses zero.

Why is the transit place optional?

The place only sets the time zone your chosen date and time are read in; the aspects and the house rows do not depend on it — houses are read against your natal chart's first cusp.

Is my birth information sent anywhere?

No. Both your birth details and the transit date and place you choose are calculated entirely in your browser, using the same local astronomy library and offline city list as every other calculator on this site. Nothing about either moment is uploaded, stored on a server, or placed in the page URL.
