How accurate is this Venus sign calculator?
Venus's position comes from Astronomy Engine, the same library every chart on this site uses. Checked against the Swiss Ephemeris at ten moments from 1879 to 2027, it agreed to within 21 arcseconds, a tiny fraction of a sign's thirty degrees. Venus never moves much more than a degree and a quarter in a day, so the sign is rarely in doubt.
What if I do not know my birth time?
Leave the time unknown and the calculator reads Venus across the whole calendar day in your birthplace's zone. On most dates Venus stays in one sign all day and the result says so. On roughly one date in thirty it changed sign during the day; then both signs are shown, and only the birth time can settle which one is yours.
What does it mean if Venus was retrograde when I was born?
Venus appears to move backward for about six weeks roughly every nineteen months, so about seven births in a hundred fall in one of those spells. The result says when Venus was retrograde at your birth, and the placements table marks it with ℞. It is an apparent motion seen from Earth, not a change in the planet.
Does this use the tropical or sidereal zodiac?
This calculator uses the tropical zodiac, where zero degrees Aries is the March equinox point. The sidereal zodiac used in much Vedic astrology counts from the stars instead; with the Lahiri value for 2026, about 24 degrees, it usually puts Venus in the previous sign.
Why does the birthplace matter for a Venus sign?
The birthplace sets the historical time zone for your birth date, which turns the local time you enter into the exact astronomical instant before Venus is placed. With a birth time it also gives the house Venus falls in. Skipping it falls back to your device's current time zone, which is only right if you were born in the zone you are in now. For a birth before 1970 in a small set of zones — mostly the Low Countries, Scandinavia and the former Yugoslavia — the historical rules come from the tzdata backzone (release 2025c), compiled into the site.

No. The calculation runs entirely in your browser using a local astronomy library and an offline city list; birth details are not sent for calculation or placed in the URL.
